What is a kundli?

A kundli (janam kundali, janam patri or birth chart) is a map of the sky at the moment and place you were born, drawn as twelve houses. It shows the sign rising in the east (the Lagna), where the Sun, Moon and planets stood, and the dasha periods that unfold from the Moon's nakshatra.

This free kundli is computed with the Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa that most Indian astrologers use, in North or South Indian style.

What you need to make your kundli

  • Your date of birth.
  • Your birth time, as exact as you can (a birth certificate or the family's record). Without it the planets' signs are still right, but the Lagna and the houses are not, and the kundli says so.
  • Your birth place (town or city), for the time zone and the sky above it.

What your kundli shows

  • Your Lagna chart (D1): the twelve houses and the planets in them.
  • Navamsa (D9), read for marriage and for each planet's real strength, and the other divisional charts.
  • Every planet's sign, house, nakshatra and strength.
  • Your Vimshottari dasha: which planet's period you are in now, and the ones to come.
  • Yogas and doshas, such as Manglik dosha, Kaal Sarp dosha and Sade Sati.
  • Your Lo Shu numerology grid from your date of birth.

How to read your kundli in five steps

  • Start with the Lagna and its lord: they colour the whole chart.
  • Find your Moon sign (rashi) and nakshatra: your daily rashifal and your dashas are read from them.
  • See which house each planet sits in, and which houses it rules.
  • Check the running dasha: the planet whose period you are in is the one most active in your life now.
  • Read yogas and doshas as tendencies, together with the whole chart, not one by one.

Questions

How do I make my kundli by date of birth?

Enter your name, gender, date of birth, birth time and birth place above and choose Show my kundli. Your birth chart, planets, dashas and yogas appear at once.

What if I don't know my birth time?

Tick Birth time unknown. The planets' signs and nakshatras are still worked out, but the Lagna and the houses need the time, so the kundli marks them as unknown.

Is this kundli free?

Yes. The kundli, its charts, dashas and yogas are free, and without signing up they stay in your browser only.

Are kundli, kundali and janam patri the same?

Yes. Kundli, kundali, janam kundali, janam patri and birth chart are names for the same chart of the sky at birth.

Which ayanamsa does this kundli use?

The Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the one most Indian astrologers use, with planets from the Swiss Ephemeris.

Can I see my current dasha?

Yes. The kundli shows the Vimshottari mahadasha you are in now with its antardashas, and the periods to come.
