Number 9 in Numerology

Number 9 and Mars

Number 9 belongs to Mars, Mangal, the commander among the planets. In Vedic astrology Mars rules courage, energy, siblings, land and the will to protect. Number 9 carries this fire: it acts boldly, protects others and likes to finish what it starts.

As the last single digit, 9 is also read as the number of completion. Any number multiplied by 9 has digits that add back to 9, a small fact numerologists like to quote about its strength.

Number 9 as Mulank (birth day number)

Mulank 9 belongs to people born on the 9th, 18th or 27th of any month (1 + 8 and 2 + 7 both make 9).

As a root number, 9 is described as energetic, brave and protective, quick to act. A Mulank 9 person tends to step in first when something needs doing and to stand up for the weak.

Number 9 as Bhagyank (destiny number)

For the Bhagyank, add every digit of the birth date. For 09-04-1985, 0 + 9 + 0 + 4 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 5 = 36, and 3 + 6 = 9.

Bhagyank 9 suggests a life that grows through courage, service and finishing what you begin. Challenges tend to appear as tests of nerve, and meeting them with a cool head builds the respect 9 values.

Personality, strengths and what to work on

Mars gives 9 drive, frankness and generosity. This number tends to be straightforward, hard to discourage and ready to give its time and strength for a cause it believes in.

• Strengths: courage, energy, generosity and a protective nature
• Work on: a quick temper and acting in haste
• Helpful habit: pausing before reacting, and turning energy into physical activity or service

Career tendencies

Mars is the planet of the soldier, the engineer and the surgeon in classical texts, so 9 tends to suit the armed forces and police, sports, engineering, mechanics, land and property, fire and emergency services, and any work that asks for quick, decisive action. It also does well leading teams through a crisis. Slow, indoor work with little challenge can make 9 restless.

Relationships and friendly numbers

Mars counts the Sun, the Moon and Jupiter as friends, so the friendly numbers of 9 are 1, 2 and 3. A 9 often respects the leadership of 1, is calmed by the care of 2 and listens to the wisdom of 3.

This shows a tendency of easy understanding, not a rule. In love 9 tends to be passionate, loyal and protective, and relationships grow smoother when it listens patiently and lets disagreements cool before speaking.

Mars's day and colour by tradition

Tuesday, Mangalvar, is Mars's day and red is its colour. Mars's direction is South and Hanuman is the deity worshipped on Tuesdays for strength and courage. The mantra of Mars is Om Kraam Kreem Kraum Sah Bhaumaya Namah.

Red Coral is Mars's traditional gemstone, with carnelian as a substitute; consult an astrologer before wearing any gemstone.
