How We Calculate
Every chart, panchang and match on AstroReads is computed by our own engine from astronomical data, by the rules below. The AI writes only the words, from facts the engine has chosen.
Planet positions
- Positions from the Swiss Ephemeris, the standard astronomical library, with its full data files, for dates from 1800 to 2399. Outside that range we show an error rather than a less precise answer.
- The nine grahas: the Sun to Saturn, Rahu as the mean lunar node, and Ketu exactly opposite it.
- The sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri ayanamsa; KP charts use the Krishnamurti ayanamsa.
Houses, divisional charts and dashas
- Whole-sign houses counted from the lagna for the Parashari chart; Placidus cusps for KP.
- Sixteen divisional charts, D1 to D60, mapped as in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
- Vimshottari dasha from the Moon's place in its nakshatra at birth, with a year of 365.25 days, to the pratyantar level.
Birth time and place
- Places are found with OpenStreetMap. The time zone, with any daylight saving in force on the birth date, comes from the place; before standard time was in use, local mean time from the longitude.
- An unknown birth time is taken as 12:00 noon: the planets' signs are usually right, but the lagna, the houses and the Moon's nakshatra may differ, and the page says so.
The panchang and festivals
- Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana at local sunrise, each with the moment it ends, to the second.
- Sunrise and sunset: the moments the Sun's upper edge meets the horizon, with atmospheric refraction, for the city chosen.
- Both month systems, amanta and purnimanta, with adhik and kshaya months.
- Festival dates by the classical rule for when the tithi must prevail (at sunrise, midday, pradosh or nishita), compared with established panchangs.
Kundli matching
North Indian Ashtakoota, out of 36 gunas, with the Bhakoot, Gana and Nadi dosha cancellations. Manglik dosha is counted from the lagna, the Moon and Venus, with its traditional cancellations.
AI readings
The engine chooses a reading's facts by the classical rules; an AI model puts them into plain words and is told to use only the facts given. Each text is checked automatically: for empty text, for unsafe topics such as health, death and money, and, where it names years, for years not in the facts. A text that fails is not shown. Like any AI text it can still be wrong: check anything important with a qualified astrologer.

Limits
Astrology is a traditional belief system. Traditions differ, and another ayanamsa, house system or festival rule can give another result; ours follow the choices above. Readings are guidance, not medical, legal or financial advice.
